Nuvance Health Safeguards Data in Cloud Move
Nuvance Health embarked on a cloud and modernization journey to ensure it provided its integrated system of healthcare centers with a simple and secure solution to safeguard vital critical patient records, imaging, and valuable business data.
Located in eastern New York and western Connecticut, Nuvance Health oversees seven community hospitals, plus primary care and specialist offices, outpatient providers, home care services, a skilled nursing and rehab facility, and a research center. To effectively manage each component and better serve patients under its purview, Nuvance Health needed to modernize its IT environment.
The healthcare provider needed a unified backup solution that offers predictable, highly scalable protection for its Microsoft Office 365 environment and cloud-based business intelligence solutions while also providing centralized backup and recovery for clinical and business applications running on 1,600 VMware virtual machines.
Nuvance Health leveraged Dell Technologies’ Dell APEX Backup Services to move a growing percentage of its applications and data into the cloud, while still running large Microsoft SQL Server databases and other solutions.
“For Office 365, APEX Backup Services provides us much greater ease of use and more refined retention periods than Microsoft native tools,” Rob Gilliland, chief technology officer at Nuvance Health, said in a statement. “As we continue to move more systems and information to the cloud, we will leverage APEX Backup Services for that.”
With more than 160 applications, Nuvance Health needed a solution that would provide greater ease of use and more refined retention periods for different data. By leveraging Dell APEX Backup Service, Nuvance Health now has the capacity to expand on demand, and the IT team enjoys a simple and consistent experience with high visibility through a single console.
“The solution lets us manage our backup solutions with a ‘single pane of glass,’” Gilliland said. “In addition, the predictable on demand model reduces our costs.”
Gilliland also noted that the performance improvements under this new unified backend are drastically better.
“The decrease in backup times allows my staff more time to work on their projects and key strategic initiatives,” he said.
